Romania to Bulgaria.

We'd already said goodbye to our host last night because we knew we wanted to leave early this morning. But at 7, whilst we were just getting dressed, our host bought coffee and biscuits to our room for breakfast - what a babe! So after we'd had this we set of towards Bulgaria.

The journey was less than 200 miles but we were in Romania now, so no motorways, and by the look of the map we had some mountains to get over - so we thought it would take a long time. Even the host at our BnB said it would take all day. Obviously she hadn't driven this way for a while as all the roads were brand new and smooth and, as it was Easter Sunday, almost empty. We did go through some very pretty, snowy mountains but not up any noticable hill. Rusty is doing great by the way - we can over take and everything (not like in WEX!)

We got to the border of Bulgaria before 1 o'clock. The passport control here did look at our passports, and even made us open the van - although when they saw how full it was they just laughed and waved us through! Our hotel was in Vidin, the town on the border, so we didn't have far to go. We found the right road - according to my printed out Google directions - but were in slight disbelief as the road was an absolute disaster, like a bomb had hit, with cars driving everywhere - in potholes and over rubble piles! Welcome home we thought! We guided Rusty through this madness and eventually found our hotel. After a quick trip to the supermarket over the road we ate some lunch in our room and then decided to go and venture out. We knew nothing about the town (or maybe it's a city) even how big it was, but I thought we coukd easily walk to the centre. Wrong. We started off down one road but ended up between some pretty scary looking blocks of flats with people going through the rubbish bins, so turned back to the main road. We followed the mayhem of the main road for a while but nothing was looking very appealing, and it started to drizzle. In the end we decided to go back to the hotel! Oh, one thing we did do was go to a petrol station and buy a vignette (road tax) for Rusty - and we got it for 1 year!!! Exciting. Now we are in our hotel room blogging and watching TV. Later we will hit the hotel restaurant for dinner and practise our Bulgarian some more.

BULGARIA!

Chilling at the hotel.
Tomorrow we will be at our house! (Apparently it's going to be raining alot.)
