Week ten.

It's going to be a brief blog update this week as I don't have time for alot of writing! We are leaving soon to pick up my friends from the train station (they have arrived from England today) and I thought I better update quickly or it will be a whole other week before I do it and I will never remember what we have done!

It's been a long hot week - mid thirty degrees everyday - and getting way too hot to work outside. Luckily we have been in the house alot, as well as making very good use of our pool! :)

So here is a quick overview of the last week...

  • Walkies!
Wild strawberries

Vineyards and lavender fields :)

We found a graveyard in the middle of nowhere - all over grown.

  • Lunch in Chirpan.

  • D showed us how to wire in our sockets and he very helpfully got us some LIGHTS in the bedroom. Amazing!
Lights!!!
  • We wired the bedroom sockets ourselves (not connected yet though.)

Wires in... ready to plasterboard!
  • We have finally plasterboarded the whole bedroom. It took a while as we did alot of it wrong and wonky so had to take it down and do it all again - argh! We also had to drill into the stone 10cm so we could securely fasten the batons to the wall. This was very slow going and hard work for poor Pete. But we got there in the end. It's still not perfect but it will be plastered onto and painted so it is good enough. :) The room is getting nicer and nicer to be in now.
First one up!

We used batons to screw into as well as dot and dab adhesive.

Hanging out skyping in our nice room :)

Insulating

Done!!
  • Sunsets, flowers in the garden and massive bugs.

  • Cherries galore!

  • So we had the chickens free range, but then they decided their favourite place was the tent and that all they wanted to do was stand in there and poo. The final straw was Lucy walking in said poo and then getting into our bed. So the chickens got caged off again! On the first day they managed to make an escape, but we've sinced secured it and they are safely away now. We are feeling a bit guilty though so we plan to make their outside area bigger. We have also been getting 3-4 eggs a day, which is great!
Naughty escaped chickens!

Chickens re-homed with fresh grass.
  • Pool time and evening relaxing.

  • After finishing the plasterboarding we went and bought a powerful Hoover to help get rid of some of the dust, although it feels like there will always be dust in the house!

  • We finally got around to making a proper solar shower. It took 3 attempts (first one fell off and smashed, second one leaked everywhere), but we got there in the end and we now have a lovely, private area to shower - with a view! We have added a black hose wrapped around the outside of the tank that enters near the bottom and near the top. The water in the hose should heat quicker and continuously flow around the tank, meaning the water should heat faster and all the way through - not just on the outside... we'll have to wait and see about that though!
Attempt 1 - this broke and was a bit shoddy looking anyway.

Tada!
  • Complete tidy of house, garden and tent - including strimming. Everything looks great.

Tidy, tidy tidy.
  • Finally we added a curtain rail and made the bedroom look beautiful so our friends can sleep in there.
So nice! I want to sleep in there!
  • The only other thing to mention is that with heat brings many bugs, Pete has been stung by a wasp this week and I am constantly attacked by horseflies - horrible!
Sorry again for the short entry - now for a quick dip in the pool and then off to the train station!

Chao chao x

  1. You are doing amazingly well...especially in this heat! Be careful with the heat, not that you need telling, but it can make you quite ill before you realise once we have temperatures up into the 40s. I also suffer badly with bites, it seems I'm very tasty, OH rarely. I have had to resort to taking an anti-histamine tablet to get any sleep, and there is a decent anti-histamine gel to take the itch and pain away...called Psilo Balsam If you need any your local chemist will have it or will get it for next day.

Keep up the good work...once your guests have left. They will be charmed by the work you hav put in on their bedroom. Have fun and look forward to more entries.
