PHEW! What a long day! We have driven in three countries and covered about 490 miles.
We were up at 7 o'clock and as our hosts weren't awake we left a note to say thank you and crept out quietly. Crossing the rest of Austria was fine and we were on the border with Hungary by 10.30.
We had to buy another vignette for Hungary, which cost 22 euros. This was more than double the price of the Austrian one and very annoying because we were only staying a few hours! We had to do it though because if we didn't use the motorway we would never make it to our BnB for the night. So on we drove, I drove for a while as well, and we were across Hungary in no time at all. Motorways are very boring - but so fast! The only stop was at Tesco (yes they have Tesco in Hungary!) to get some food for lunch and dinner. The Romanian border was the only place we had had to show our passports so far, but even there the guy saw we were 'British Peoples' and just nodded us through without even opening them.

Proof of me driving. |
We were expecting the 50 odd mile journey to our BnB to take forever but were pleasantly surprised to find a brand new motorway built that took us almost to the front door! So we were at the BnB in the village of Stanciova about an hour later, at 5.30 (Romania is another hour ahead.)

Pretty village of Stanciova. |
We walked into the BnB, which was in a small holding in a tiny village up a dirt track, to find a few people and a baby dancing in the barn, playing a gong, some chimes and a xylophone! We'd found a hippy commune! The host was a Romanian lady, who showed us to our rooms and after we'd had a beer and a chat she gave us a tour of her farm. The place was amazing - most of the land was used for veggies, and there were chickens, rabbits, day old geese babies, a huge pile of mature and some clever compost toilets and solar showers. All very similar to what we have planned for our house! And the host was so nice; she dug up a young Elder tree and some wild mint from the stream and gave them to us to plant in our garden. What a great place. Anyway, when it got dark we had showers (a proper shower in the house), had some sandwiches for dinner and had an early night.
